Sheave Groove Gauge

Overview

The wire rope groove gauges is a kind of inspection tool for worn grooves. The sheave groove gauges are manufactured to a diameter plus a tolerance. This size allows the sheave to have a slightly larger diameter than the wire rope it supports. When the gauge is placed in the sheave, the geometries should match without any space at the sides or bottom.

It is suitable for the drilling operation in the oil & gas industry, and it is manufactured according to the API RP9B-1999 “Recommended Practice on Application, Care, and Use of Wire” and SY/T 6666-2017 ”Recommended practice on application care, and use of wire rope for petroleum & natural gas industry service”

Each of these series of sheave groove gauges is a three gauges set, each of which has a semi-circular shape at the end of each gauge, and its radius is the minimum worn groove radius, the minimum new groove radius and the maximum groove radius respectively. On the shank of each gauge, there is a wire rope gauge, which is used for inspecting the worn of the wire rope, its radius is normal wear conditions, and the value is a 6.25% reduction in the normal rope size.
